Broomfield Days

Mike and I both love the various "carnival/festivities" put on by the various suburbs during the summer. We hit Thornton fest a few months ago, and decided to check out Broomfield days on Saturday. It was great! The best part was the firestation right there. They were giving tours of the firehouse, the firetruck, and of course, free fireman hats:) Fun was had by all.

First Day of Dance

We signed up for dance lessons with Eden and Larke Jones. Wednesday has become the highlight of Kaitlin's life. She's a good head taller than the other girls her age, and grace is definitely not her middle name, but she just loves it!

First Day of Soccer

New ball, new shin guards, any red shirt we could find in the house...we're ready to play! Big thanks to Jenny Anthony for organizing a fun soccer club for the youngsters.

Omaha

My cute sister-in-law and I spent the week in Omaha with our babies, and we left our three-year-olds with my parents. We saw the Omaha zoo, we walked over the bridge over the Missouri river, we ate lots of yummy food, we spent LOTS of money at the most wonderful consignment sale ever, we visited Cabelas (because you can't go to Nebraska and not see Cabelas:). It was fun! I babysat Anni quite a bit while her mom worked that weekend, and man do I have a new appreciation for mothers of twins.

Kaitlin's been really fascinated by death for the past few weeks. We kinda started the dialog a few months ago when my in-law's dog was put down, and since then she just has tons of questions about dying. Not morbid questions, but questions nonetheless. We were looking at her little Book of Mormon reader in sacrament meeting today, and she stopped on the page of Christ on the cross (my sunday school class always wanted to stop on that page too.)

Kaitlin: "Mommy, why did those mean men kill Jesus? And they should have given him a shirt, because I bet he got cold on that cross."

It just made my heart melt. She's very fond of telling me that Jesus died so that "everyone can be together forever" and that "Jesus loves all the little children, especially me." The testimonies of these little kids just amaze me.

I love this picture of Kaitlin for so many reasons. This is such a typical Kaitlin sassy smile. Plus, she's wearing her big sister shirt AND hat, and she's finally getting some real hair. This month has just been awesome with her, and I feel like we're reaping the benefits of not having turned her onto the street a few months ago (okay, maybe that's too harsh:). She's a lot of fun!

Six Months Old

Allison turned six months old on February 25th, and she just keeps getting more and more wonderful. She has always been the baby of facial expressions, and this last month has been no exception. It's been so funny to watch her face go from happy to sad back to happy in mere seconds. It's also fun to see her love/fear relationship with her sister. Kaitlin can make Allison smile more brightly than anyone. Other times Allison gets this look of pure trepidation when Kaitlin enters the room (my dad calls it tweety bird with the putty cat).
A few other new things:
  • She never cared for rice cereal, but she's doing great with pears, bananas, apples, squash, sweet potatoes (and really any other variety of potato), and oatmeal. She can hold and knaw on french fries and teething biscuits, and she LOVES otterpops (our family's new tradition before bed...not sure why:). She's still a nursing champ.
  • She reaches for cheerios and puffs on her highchair, moves them around a lot, knocks them on the floor, but can't quite get them into her mouth.
  • She's a champion sitter. I think those thunder thighs provide a great foundation.
  • She's always been in constant motion, but now she does this funny forward and back bobbing thing when she sits. It's even better when she gets excited.
  • She's insanely ticklish. Especially under her chin and on her sides. She giggles when your hands get close-even if you never touch her.
  • She blows the best raspberries. It's even cute when she spits her squash out all over the table.
  • She loves to watch Mike get ready for work in the morning. She just watches him move around the room, and then gives him a great big smile when he smiles at her. It's so cute!
  • She's gotten kicked out of the nursery at the gym three times now (apparently she likes us and no one else). So, I've started working out in the mornings before hubby leaves for work, and Mike works out in the evenings. It's great.
  • Still no teeth. No complaints here.
  • Doc says she's 99th percentile for height and 89th for weight. Doc also says she's bet money that Allison will skip crawling and go straight to walking. We'll see.

OH THE COW IN THE MEADOW GOES MOO!

Oh, the cow in the meadow goes moo! Then the farmer hits him on the head and grinds him up, And that's how we get hamburgers. ...

I love Friends. I love how any life situation has a Friends quote that comes to mind. I was watching this episode last night and Kaitlin came down from her bedroom and announced (mind you I didn't even know she was listening)..."Silly girl, we don't get hamburger from a cow, we get it from the store."

So, there you have it folks. Any other life questions, send them her way.
